My Last Word does not independently certify death. After-death delivery uses periodic owner check-ins, a 14-day grace period, and confirmation from at least two active, verified trusted contacts. Scheduled delivery instead follows the future date you chose.
Everything, step by step
1. Save and organize what matters
Upload any file type, write messages, create a will, and organize photos, videos, documents, and notes in folders. You can preview, rename, move, inspect, and update every file from its own page.
2. Add people and choose their role
A normal contact is informational and can be used in your will or records. A trusted contact can receive private deliveries and help confirm your passing. You choose the role before saving and can turn trusted access on or off later.
3. Trusted contacts accept and verify
A trusted contact must create or sign in to an account using the invited email, verify their phone, and complete Stripe-hosted identity verification before the role becomes active.
4. Choose what goes to whom
Give a file its own trusted recipient, or put multiple files, messages, and wills in a folder with one delivery rule. Everything inside that folder inherits its recipients, timing, and note so it cannot be sent twice under competing rules.
5. Check-ins protect against mistakes
For after-death delivery, My Last Word emails you at the interval you selected. One tap confirms you are okay. A missed check-in releases nothing and starts a 14-day grace period.
6. At least two verified people must confirm
If the grace period ends without your response, active trusted contacts receive confirmation requests. At least two independent confirmations are required. A decline, dispute, or incomplete confirmation blocks automatic release.
7. The approved snapshot is delivered privately
Once every safeguard is satisfied, the approved contents are frozen into a delivery snapshot. Each trusted recipient receives an email notification and opens only their assigned content in the private Deliveries section of their account.
What changes when a trusted contact becomes unavailable
If a trusted contact’s death is verified through My Last Word, their trusted roles are disabled, unopened access is revoked, and affected future deliveries pause. Owners who depend on that person are notified and can replace them everywhere, remove assignments without deleting the content, or inspect each affected item.
What this looks like in real life
A missed check-in while traveling
Maria uses a 90-day check-in. She misses one while traveling, but nothing is sent. She confirms during the 14-day grace period, so the process stops and her next interval begins.
A contact becomes trusted later
Avery first adds Sam as a normal contact for a will. Later Avery turns trusted access on. Sam accepts the invitation and completes verification before becoming eligible to receive anything.
A trusted contact is no longer available
When a trusted contact’s death is verified through My Last Word, their trusted roles are disabled, unopened access is revoked, and affected owners are notified. Future deliveries pause until the owner replaces or removes that person.
Confirmed after-death delivery
After James misses his check-in and grace period, two active trusted contacts independently confirm. His approved files and messages appear in each assigned recipient’s Deliveries area, and email notifications are sent.
A message for a known future date
A parent schedules a graduation video for June 1, 2032. It is released on that date without a death check because scheduled delivery is a separate, intentional rule.
